If so, which ones and did they work?
I have used it for 20 years - first for acne (I was on the prescription pill Retinol then). It cleared up my skin and has kept me skin looking consistently at least 10 years younger than I am. Bottom line: it works....
PS: For many it may be very harsh and cause reddening and discomfort. Start with a low prescription and work your way up.

I've been using Retin A for acne and over facial rejuvenation for some time now. It's a wonderful product and works extremely well. However, I would like to know if there is proper usage for around the eye area. I wasn't too sure if it would be risky or if there would be a safe way to apply it. Does anyone happen to know if this is possible??
better is doctor advice...

I'm only using it for mild crows feet under my eyes and DAMN is it amazing working wonders but even with me rotating it every 3rd day and applying it thinly is it ever still making my skin peel!
I just wanted to see if any of you have used it for similar reasons over a prolonged amount of time and if you were satisfied with the end results? I've only been using it for a little over a month but I must that I've been getting tons of compliments from my boyfriend/friend already for looking younger.
Retinol is a proven wrinkle fighter. It is in many different skin treatments. As far as Retin-A usage, I have used it and seen results, as you have. I think that your problem is the rotation. I would just carry on using it, without a break, I believe it is the break, the off time that is causing the peeling. The way Retin-A works is you start using it everyday and then, you go through the peeling process. After the peeling process, your skin will start to normalise again. If you want to heal the peeling and redness faster, Estee Lauder has a good product that I always recomend, it is called 'Advanced Night Repair'. I think you are still peeling bacause you start the cycle over every time you stop. If you just carry on using it, you will peel the once and then normalise. A daily skin care routine of cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturising then, follow with a sunblock EVERY day, rain or shine will help to keep your skin in good health. Also, the sunblock is especially important with Retin-A because it makes your skin much more sensitive to the sun. 98% of all visable signs of aging come from sun damage.

the past couple of years. Would I be doing more harm than good by using Retin-A under my eyes? If I am, what can I use under my eyes that treats wrinkles that actually works?
it's not harmful as long as it doesn't get in your eyes. just use it very sparingly.

like instead of an acne treatment? I am too young for wrinkles and i dont have a problem with acne but I want to prevent wrinkles except as far as i know it is only available as an acne treatment solution.
No -- there are "retinols", which are far less potent forms of Vitamin A, and these are available in moisturizers. If you're too young for wrinkles and don't have acne, then you shouldn't be using Retin-A. It can be very irritating to some people with sensitive skin and makes you more prone to sunburn with sun exposure.
If you're worried about wrinkles, use sunscreen every day -- that is what dermatologists recommend for preventing wrinkles since most wrinkles are due to sun exposure.

How to turn back the clock Gainesville Sun
What about the bevy of anti-aging products that promise to turn back the clock? Most over-the-counter anti-aging products contain small amounts of tretinoin (also known as retin-A), which has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to help erase fine lines and wrinkles. Some contain hydroquinone, a skin-bleaching agent that lightens age spots and freckles. But, Mitchell says, “None of the over-the-counter products bring about drastic results.” Prescription-strength tretinoin and hydroquinone creams available from a dermatologist contain higher concentrations of these ingredients and yield better results.
For those who need more than a topical cream or lotion, deep chemical peels can smooth fine lines and make a significant difference in the color of your skin. For deep, “dynamic” wrinkles, such as frown lines, there’s Botox (botulinum toxin A), which temporarily diminishes deep wrinkles, and collagen injections, which plump up the underlying tissues to help smooth out wrinkles. For more severe damage, cosmetic surgery may be in order.
